Black PVD Coating
What is PVD Coating
PVD stands for Physical Vapor Deposition and it's a high-tech method of applying a thin and incredibly durable coating to the bracelet and case of your Rolex watch. With this ionic plating process that applies titanium nitride, you can change the color of your Rolex to black. It creates a sleek black matte finish on your watch that is as hard as sapphire. This can be done to the Oyster Perpetual, Daytona, GMG Master II, Submariner, Datejust, Sea-Dweller - really any Rolex model with a bracelet.
If you ever change your mind after you have your black Rolex finish made, you can always have it removed chemically. There are mechanical options that are more abrasive so we don't recommend those.

How Long Does it Take for A PVD Coating To Be Applied?
It usually takes a PVD coatingย up to six weeks to be applied. The reason is that the watch undergoes an extensive preparation process. We start by conducting a full inspection of the watch and begin disassembly. Disassembly requires taking apart the case, bezel, bracelet, crown, and case back. We perform an extensive 3-step cleaning process. Next is surface preparation and we will need to mask certain parts of the watch that should not be coated. Then we are ready to apply the coating. Once that is done, a full inspection, including adhesion testing is done. The next step is reassembly and final testing and inspection again followed by polishing and cleaning. Then we are ready to ship it back to you!
As you can see, we go through a meticulous process to ensure the best quality results for our clients' watches.
What if I do want to wear it daily?
We recommend purchasing a nice aftermarket steel case and / or bracelet and having the original movement installed. We will PVD coat the aftermarket items while you stash the original case and bracelet away for safekeeping. If ever a time comes when you want to go back to the originals, you have them handy and we can install the movement back into the original case, bringing back all of the original value to the timepiece.
